Hoop Dawgs Set Table For 2011

The Hoop Dawgs’ season came to an end late Friday with a loss to Vanderbilt, wrapping Georgia’s season up at 14-17. In most cases, a sub-.500 mark isn’t much to be proud of. That’s not true in this case.
The Mark Fox rebuilding project has been kicked into overdrive, and that’s a good thing. For the first time since Jim Harrick, Stegeman Coliseum was exciting place to be. The product on the court was worth watching too as Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie came into their own.

This Georgia team was predicted to finish last in the SEC East, but it sure didn’t play like it. Just take a quick look at some of the wins by UGA this year – Georgia Tech, Florida, Vanderbilt, Illinois and Tennessee. Of those, all five have a shot to be NCAA tournament teams with at least three being locks at this stage. I don’t care what the sport is – if you are playing for Georgia, a season in which you beat Florida, Tech and Tennessee is a good thing.

So now, the biggest challenge awaits for Georgia – building on the past season. Throughout the season, this team struggled with bouts on inconsistency, a trait that contributed to not winning a game outside the state of Georgia until Thursday’s SEC tournament win over Arkansas.

The point is, however, that the program is in much better shape than the shambles Dennis Felton left it in, and fans of Georgia basketball have much to look forward to.

Go Dawgs!
