More Than Weed

I was talking to a coworker today, and the subject of  Tyrann Mathieu came up.  We both expressed our agreement with what Ucheedawg posted earlier, and how sad it was that a young man, who was a year away from having more money than any of us could ever imagine in our wildest dreams, will now have an uphill struggle not only to make an NFL roster, but to get his life together.

My coworker brought up a good point.  There are folks who like so smoke weed.  Some folks can do it and maintain a normal life.  But to go through the expense of entering a rehab facility, you have got to think that it is more than a dance or two with Mary Jane that has sent Mathieu to this.

It is just purely speculation, but  it is what it is.

I hope Mathieu can battle past his personal demons, and before he even thinks about playing football again, I hope this young man can just get himself right. Becuase rehab ain’t just for a recreational or social user.

It could be more, but rehab is the protocol nowdays when anyone gets in trouble. It looks better to the school and his PR.

It doesn’t look better to the school. Because it now looks like it’s more than weed. You don’t go to rehab for weed. You go to rehab for the hard stuff.

I wondered about that myself. Anytime you are doing something that leads to a life altering event (and not a good one) maybe one should rethink what they are to do to avoid a repeat.

“So many people believe that marijuana abuse is harmless that there are few recognized red flags that signify that rehab is
necessary. How do you know when you need marijuana addiction treatment? You may:

Smoke marijuana even when you know it will inhibit your ability to be at your best
Lose hours or days to being high
Continue to smoke despite the protests of those closest to you
Be unable to stop smoking despite repeated attempts and promises to those you love
Choose to get high rather than remain sober for important family or work events

If any of these are issues for you, then chances are high that marijuana abuse is a problem that requires treatment.”

I guess the “rehab” with marijuana is to treat the personality symptoms that lead to overdoing it.

“I have friends” who smoked a good bit of dope from time to time, but had no trouble stopping when it became necessary. There is no forensic evidence, despite the conversation otherwise, that marijuana is physically adicting, unlike alchohol and, obviously, meth, coke or heroin.

So, from that point of view if the kid needs rehab it is likely for behavior modification or a problem with an addictive substance.
