Crime Problem At UGA…And It Is Not the Football Players

Dr. Alan T. Dorsey, Dean of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia, is clearly an inept leader.

Now, I don’t know Dr. Dorsey; I am a graduate of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.  I wouldn’t know Dean Dorsey if he walked in the door and took a leak on my floor.

However, there have been some disturbing trends recently that prove that Dr. Dorsey is not fit to run the largest College at the University and its 603 faculty members.

You see, just a few weeks ago, a German Professor was arrested and charged in a prostitution ring.  Max Reinhart was arrested for being a transvestite hooker that went by “Sasha”, and he is going to be allowed to keep his job until next May.  Unbelievable!

Just a few weeks later, as a part of the same sting, Chemistry instructor Bobby Stanton was arrested and charged with pandering for prostitution.

Associate Professor of Sociology Thomas McNutty was arrested on charges of public drunkenness last January.

Psychology Professor Billy Hammond was also arrested and charged with ad DUI and a hit and run in January.

My English 1101 professor was arrested on charges on child pornography…and it was very  disturbing stuff.

Associate Professor of Mathematics Shuzhou Wang was arrested  for making threats after being investigated for child abuse.

All of these instances, except for the last two, have happened since January.  4 arrests!  I included the two older ones because they are especially disgusting.

Clearly, there is a discipline problem in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.  Whatever message Dean Dorsey is relaying to his faculty is just not getting through.  You can go to the Red and Black’s website and search for numerous more examples.  There is an obvious rampant crime problem, and these infractions aren’t just your typical mistakes. Prostitution, physical threats, child pornography.  Terrible, terrible immoral crimes.

Dean Dorsey clearly is not fit to lead.  Here is another reason why: do a Google search of “University of Alabama professor arrested.”  You won’t find anyone from the Tuscaloosa campus is listed.  I couldn’t find any UA prof arrests  searching Google or Alabama’s student newspaper.

Clearly, these sort of shenanigans don’t go on at the University of Alabama. They don’t have time for this shit.

Well played, Sir. Don’t forget, the faculty apparently rubbed off on our former AD, too…

These limited incidences with the teachers pale in comparison to the 40+ incidents on Mark Richt’s football team. As a UGA grad, Mark Richt is an embarrassment to the noble institution. The crime problem is easily ten times worse among the football players than the teachers.

Yeah…emerging from an alley with a scooter and being a typical college kid and getting drunk just pales in comparision to a professor dressing up like a woman, going by the name Sasha and being a prostitue. On top of all that, the Professor was on ABC News’ 20/20 and other national news outlets. And the professor is being allowed to keep his job through the end of next school year. No punishment from the University. Yeah, the football program sure is a problem, alright.

40+ incidents…12 years of coaching…approx. 100 kids (including walk ons a year) per year.

      Get a grip, idiot.

Well said Corbindawg!! Some people are just never going to get it. I run up on crap like this all the time. SMDH

corbin, normally I enjoy your articles. This one, you are way off base.
You undervalue the sense of entitlement these football players have.
I would assume the above post you took offense to, included amond the more than 40 incidents violence against girls on campus. To say that crimes like these, arn’t as bad as the minute few sample size you reference, is the epitome of lunacy. Some of these professors are still teaching, so it’s of course anywhere near as bad as you suggest. I can’t find any major newspaper or sports journalist who agrees with you that the UGA football program doesn’t have a crime problem. The Atlanta Journal sure disagrees with you. The number of crimes at UGA football are more numerous than any school in the conference, with the exception of Florida, where the current AD came from.

How many other schools suspend players for a first failed drug test? Not many.
How many other college towns have more bars per capita than Athens? None.

I am not saying that the football players don’t get in a lot of trouble. But when a professor, an employee of the Univeristy who is supposed to set an example, gets arrested for child pornography, well it is an afterthought. Elton Manzione was my professor…and I would say that someone in Albany, GA hasn’t heard that he was arrested 5 years ago. But they have heard that there have been 40 football players arrested. A football player gets arrested-let’s use Tripp Chandler since he is a former player and I don’t want to throw any current ones under the bus. Tripp Chandler is arrested for having an open container while crossing the street. And the Atlanta Journal makes it front page news on their website. And the players who commit violent infractions-Michael Lemon, for example-are quickly removed from the team.

Take two fraternities…they make up about 100 guys. How many frat boys are arrested in a year? How many frat boys would fail a drug test if randomly administered? How many freshmen in Creswell are arrested in a year? Then how many student athletes are arrested? Use common sense and don’t be a full of foolishness and ignorance.

You sir, are an moron. Kiddie porn. Transvestite prostitution. This pales in comparison to a few stupid college kid mistakes. Now there have been a few serious incidents and those players were immediately removed. However, the vast majority of the 40 arrests you cite were micky mouse BS. I’m assuming your a troll from the soon to be defunct AJC.

Seriously?!? You are comparing kids to professional teachers? The difference is between 18-20 yr olds who have been catered too as athletic stars and older, educated, and presumably more responsible adults. The number of incidents should pale in comparison! 18-20 yr old players are expected to make mistakes, college professors that influence and mold the minds of those same 18-20 yr olds should absolutely be held to a higher standard!

Don’t forget the Prof that committed the double murder at the theater. This was after the cops had been called to his house numerous times for domestic abuse. While we are at it we could mention a trustee that beat the crap out of his neighbor in Athens. Neither of these guys were arrested, unlike the two football players that were arrested, then kicked off the team for domestic abuse and assault, respectively. Unlike young men from checkered backgrounds educated adults should know better.

I originally included Zinkhan but he wasn’t in Franklin. But yes, Imagine the shit storm if a football player killed multiple people.

It is also worth noting that to be charged with a crime is different than being actually guilty of a crime. Why do we even have a justice system at all if everyone is always guilty no matter what. Many of the charges stipulated above were later dismissed. For instance, the DUI and hit and run by the Psychology professor (Hammond) was dismissed in court.

Clearly you haven’t done your research.

Dr. Alan Dorsey wasn’t the Dean at the time of these instances.
We here at Franklin College just went through a dean transition. Former Dean, Garnett Stokes, became provost of Florida State University in August 2011. This left us with Dr. Hugh Ruppersburg as interim dean until they hired a permanent one. Dr. Alan Dorsey was hired in March 2012 to take the reins on JULY 1ST, 2012.

As for these crimes, they are indeed horrendous.

Due to Reinhart’s tenureship, though, it would cost more to cut him off the payroll a year in advance than to keep him until May. He has been banned from teaching at the University, though. Somehow you failed to mention this.

Again, study up before you publically slander someone. Dean Dorsey has great potential leading the largest college at UGA.

Clearly, understanding sarcasm is not a requirement to be employed with the Franklin College.

Again, try having a sense of humor before you get your panties in a wad.

Actually many of those charges were later dismissed, you should do your research. Guilty until proven innocent, and then still guilty. Nice.
