Why?

I am sure by now, you have all heard the news that Isaiah Crowell was arressted on charges for having a concealed weapon, and felony charges of having an altered ID and a weapon in a school zone.

This is the most ridiculous thing ever.  How can he be so stupid?  I have long been an adversary of the jackass Jimmy Williamson and his inept BarneyFiffe police department.  The ACCPD isn’t much better.

But this isn’t just boys being boys.  It is him being a thug.  Coach Richt has patience with petty, victimless crimes; he hasn’t had much patience with thuggery, and nor should he.

Crowell lives in Clarke County, not Compton.  He lives on campus, eats in the dining halls.  It is not exactly like there is good, legitimate reason why a 19 or 20 year old who lives on campus and could be treated as king.  If he is going anywhere on where he feels the need to pack heat, then that is his dumb fault.

If he wants to play the role of gangsta rapper,  I hope Richt kicks his sorry ass off the team.  Even if he didn’t have a NFL opportunity, then he would at least have the chance to get a college degree from UGA.  Go back to Columbus, live in the hood somewhere, and carry around all the illegal concealed weapons you can.

Is that what you want Isaiah?  Apparently so, becuase a life changing opportunity was given to you, and to quote Jimmy Buffett, you:

“…pissed it away so fast.  Never meant to last, never meant to last.”

“If he is going anywhere on where he feels the need to pack heat, then that is his dumb fault.”

Based on the current state of concealed carry laws in Georgia, I think most of the state’s political establishment would disagree with you. In recent years I believe they’ve added parks, restaurants … I believe the legislature tried to add churches. Granted, that’s for folks with licenses. But it doesn’t sound like you’re saying Crowell’s problem was a lack of a license, but his feeling he needed to carry a gun.

If that’s the problem, there are a lot of thugs out there.

Well, I don’t intend to turn this into a debate about conceal and carry rights or gun control laws, and I feel my personal opinions would be different than most who read this blog. But as a 19 year old rising sophomore, you have to make better judgement. Where was he going that he actually felt like he needed a gun for his protection? Where did the a 6′, 225 lb athletic young man, who the majority of folks in Athens would bend over backwards to see him get 1,000 yards, feel like he needed a weapon for his protection? Especially considering he lives on campus. I know there are extreme, terrible examples like VA Tech, but nothing good can come from a Sophomore at UGA having a gun in their dorm, or in their car, or wherever.

Most citizens who are concerned with their second amendment rights don’t have a file off serial number. This is a separate thinking that you have to own a gun to “fill in the blank”. There is no justification in this. Sadly cases like this make gun owners look bad. He deserves everything the da throws at him.

I know this could be said of a lot of athlete-students across the country, but Crowell had no business stepping foot on a college campus. Get his college degree? Seriously? He was lamenting the fact that “they actually care if you go to class” when he first got to UGA. Miracle that he qualified. Jax State is calling.

Yea, I agree with Greg. This young man never seemed to me to interested in becoming a part of the University of Georgia or the football team. Sure, he picked UGA over all the other teams from which he was offered a scholorship. But being part of a team is more than suiting up on game day and scoring touchdowns. There is hard work and a willingness to be a total team player. I do not think IC was willing to do either.

I am sorry that IC has chosen to not be a part of UGA but it was his, and his decision alone, to follow this path. I feel that Mark Richt needs to cut his losses with this talented but troubled person.

Let’s wait for all the facts to come out before passing judgement. While I realize it’s possible he is just a complete jack-wagon who engaged in complete asshattery (which, if that’s the case, all animosity directed his way is warranted), it occurs to me that perhaps he volunteered to be a DD for someone, and drove that persons car wholly unaware that a firearm was inside. That is an “innocent” explanation for all three charges (needed a fake ID to get into the bar). Just something to consider before we toss him to the wolves. As any DA will tell you, whenever there is a criminal possession situation during a traffic stop, everyone in the car gets charged to give prosecutors the necessary leverage to ensure the appropriate person ends up convicted.

It wasn’t an altered ID, it was an altered serial on the (stolen?) Luger. I must agree fully that the thug culture is the cause here. Why were they all in a club with marijuana floating around? The first hint of mj and I would have been GTFO. Now about the gun debate…there are a lot of college kids who would love the ability to apply and pass the qualifications to be a licensed carrier. They get robbed and assaulted all the time. I’m sure you would want your petite daughter or small son to be able to defend against a rapist thug if assaulted. People are too afraid of licensed gun carriers. They on average pass three thugs carrying illegally every day, but worry about a licensed gun owner. Go figure?
