I had incorrectly likened the SEC to the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair. The SEC puts on the best contest, has the best personalities, plays a little dirty and is the most prestigious and lavish of all the other conferences. The SEC has a bunch of limousine ridin’, jet flyin’, kiss stealin’, wheelin’ dealin’ sons of a guns. With the conference expansion and other conferences trying to compete with SEC with the TV deals, it is like other guys want to be with us, and if they don’t, they want to be like us.
Despite the fact the SEC is about to win its 6th consecutive National Championship and its 7th since 2003, I am starting to have my doubts about the conference’s influence on a national stage.
You’d think that since the SEC has been a winner, has had 3 out of the last 5 Heisman Trophy winners, huge TV Contracts, the pundits would have a better understanding of what goes on down here. Though no SEC school has green officially in their colors, but the SEC’s official colors should be green becuase of all the money the conference has and becuase every one else is green with envy.
But I guess the national media, namley the “northeastern” media, hasn’t paid much attention to the SEC in recent years becuase of all the attention now on Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow.
Last night on Sportscenter, there was an analyst talking about how much of a polarizing figure Tebow is, and how unpopular he is in some circles.
Either you love Tebow, or you hate him. Most fans in the SEC outside of Gainseville, namley in Athens, aren’t the biggest fans.
I made the mistake one day of listening to Sean Hannity and he was talking about how people don’t like Tebow becuase of his religion and asked why do we in America villify someone becuase they are open about their faith. I have heard Rush make similar complaints.
The anit-Tebow crowd is nothing new in these parts. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact he is open about his faith. There is no doubt he is a great leader. He is talented. That is not why folks dislike him. It is the crying, the celebrating after 3 yard runs, the haircut, the overall douchebag-ness of Tebow that drives folks crazy.
I understand why the media latches onto him. Denver was 1-4 pre Tebow, 7-1 post since he started. He is the hot story in the most popular sport in the United States, professional football. But you would think that if the national media and ESPN have paid as close attention to the SEC as I thought they would have, they would know that Tim Tebow had his critics from the 11 other fan bases in the SEC. It should come to no surprise that people outside of Denver find him annoying.

He’s a great athlete and a good Christian, but he’s not a great quarterback. It’s that simple. He has a 48% passing percentage, which is about 20% shy of what the greats like Rodgers have.
But Timmy’s a winner, you say. No, he’s won games, but he’s limited. Look at the Broncos most notable wins — a weak Jets team where Sanchez played like a fool? Carson Palmer? Come on. Tebow has a great defense supporting him and miraculous 50+ yd field goals. He’s not breaking 20 pts some games and still winning.
I can’t wait to watch the game on Sunday, when he is matched up against Tom Brady, an elite QB.
If the Broncos win on Sunday, I will be sick from eating so much crows pie, but I seriously and highly doubt that’s going to happen.
A good athlete, a good Christian, sure, but not a great QB. I want the Tebow train to wreck so all the band wagoners will be violently thrown off.
I love my Dawgs but I have to say am cheering for Tim Tebow. Most my friends are UGA fans also and almost all of them feel the same way I do. You think people dont like him for his hair cut and for showing emotion. You sound like a total douche yourself. All the bad things and bad people in sports and this is why people hate Tebow. I compared Ric Flair to the SEC, not Tebow. So I am not sure you fully understand the point or premise of the post. You might want to “Tebow” for a moment and re-read. My point is that before now, Tebow was disliked so this is nothing new, and the dislike is for a variety of reasons, not based on his faith like the AM Talk Radio hosts will lead you to believe. And if you don’t think, or have never thought, that Tim Tebow was a douchebag, we must have a different definition of the term. And yes, that gelled hair crew cut and celebrating wildly after a 3 yard run is douchey. He is the flavor of the month, together with his antics. Not all people supporting him has nothing to do with his religion nor QB play. He is just winning that is why, and people will just be curious to know how far can he really push his kind of play. This weekend against New England will likely be a taste of reality, just like when he played against Stafford and Detroit.
Apologies for my sentence construction above. The current popularity of Tebow is just because he continue to be the UNDERDOG, with some media folks actually waiting for his ultimate fall. Not so different when UGA went into that 10 game run

I will never root for someone who came out of Gainesville no matter how good the sports pundits think they are. Secondly, it’s the undeserved media coverage. Andy Dalton and AJ Green (a former Dawg) are setting the world on fire in Cincinnati. How often do you hear about these rookies? You don’t, because St. Tebow is sucking up all the oxygen. And third, there’s no crying in football!
