SEC Bold Predictions for 2011

I meant to get around to this earlier in the week, but couldn’t get around to it.  I gave some national predictions last week, so here are some for SEC.  I was at 40% last season, let’s see if I get any better for this year!

1.  Auburn won’t win as many games as it did a year ago?  Hey, you may call BS, but come on.  Every team gets a cupcake to pad their stats.  So here is mine!

2.   Arkansas is overrated- I thought that the Razorbacks would be over rated last season, and was wrong.  I know Bobby Petrino is a good coach, but having to replace Ryan Mallett and Knile Davis will be too much for the Hogs.  They do have a lot of talent in the other skill postions.   I do think that Mississippi State will be good (and the showing last night didn’t hurt).    Arkansas has tough games back to back weeks versus Alabama and then has a farily difficult month of November with games against South Carolina, Mississippi State and LSU.  Their two toughest games are going to be on the road, and the Aggies are going to be pretty good.   Look for the Razorbacks to get upset by Ole Miss or Tennessee.  I just don’t like them.

3.  Georgia WILL beat Florida-Again, missed this one last year, but I think Florida will be wore slap out from a brutal month that includes hosting Alabama, and  going to LSU and Auburn back to back weeks before their annual date at the Cocktail Party.  Mark Richt NEEDS a win over the Gators.  Coach Grantham’s defense will match up better against the Gators new pro style offense.  Plus, the Gators are only returning 4 starters back on defense. And we may want to complain about Mike Bobo, but in the three years that UGA faced off against the Muschamp defenses, UGA scored 31, 37 and 45 points against some very good Auburn defenses.  Not part of the offical prediction, but Muschamp will have a learning curve.  The schedule does him no favors.  I look for the Gators to have another 5 loss season.  He’s young.  Young, first time head coaches have some growing pains.  Look for the Gators to get out coached some games and Muschamp to make some rookie mistakes, especially in the areas of clock managment.  I look for the Dawgs to get right against the Gators.

4.  Tyler Bray will have more passing yards than Aaron Murray.  Tyler Bray won’t be splitting time with Matt Simms, and threw for 1849 yards last season.  I expect Tennessee to be having to throw a lot, like Georgia did a year ago.  That is a nice way of saying they will be playing from behind a lot.  Aaron had a great Rs freshmen season, but don’t see him eclipsing the 3,000 yard mark again for the second straight year.

5.  Branden Smith will lead UGA in INTs.  Call it a hunch.

6.  LSU will beat Alabama on November 6- Nick Saban is 2-2 against his former team.  I think LSU is going to be really good.  Alabama will be good too, and have gone 12-0 two out of the last three seasons.  But I think the Tigers get the better of the Crimson Tide in this MONSTER showdown.

Ten total predictions…let’s see how I do!
