Logan Gray- You Can’t Leave Us Now, Not Like This

Yesterday afternoon, I thought granitedawg was playing a cruel joke when he told me that Logan Gray may leave UGA. I dismissed him immediately and turned the conversation elsewhere. However, I checked into it later on and saw that this was in fact the rumor. Sorry granite.

Right now, this is merely speculation. However, if there is some substance to the rumor, this would be detrimental in the worst way to UGA football.

Aaron Murray will be the starting QB this fall, we know that. If all goes well and Aaron comes in on his white horse and is our savior, then that’s great! If he is protected by an experienced offensive line, wonderful! If he doesn’t make a bad decision to dive for a first down and have his shoulder knocked out of socket, perfect! But, the fact of the matter is this: Aaron Murray will be a freshman QB with no field experience, and in the violent game that is football, there is a reasonable chance that he will not go unscathed for an entire year.

Yes, I’m planning for the worst, but don’t you have to?

So, let’s say that Aaron Murray does not get hurt and is the magical fix that we members of Bulldog Nation are praying for. Logan Gray transferring is no big deal, right? But what if? What if Aaron Murray gets hurt? What if he wrecks his scooter? What if he slips walking into the SLC and sprains an ankle? Where would we turn? Hutson Mason? Surely not. But what would the other option be?

After looking into this a bit more, I talked with granite again and made the observation that if, at this point, Gray did transfer, and Murray did get hurt, then Washaun Ealey would be a better replacement at QB than Hutson Mason. Ok, that was in jest, but has Mason even turned 18 years old yet?

Looking ahead to next year, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal if Gray transfers. I truly believe that UGA will land either Lamay or Marshall, each of whom has the talent to start in their second year in the program. I think that they would both immediately battle Mason for the #2 spot on the depth chart (this is a MAJOR reach, so please don’t hold me to the fire, I’m just looking at rankings, athletic ability, etc.; I know Mason is a pretty decent QB with some upside).

For the present though, we need Logan Gray to stay with UGA. Even if it’s to move to receiver, we need him to stay. You’ve got to have a backup QB with some type of experience. If UGA has any chance of winning the East, it will be with Murray or Gray at the helm. I just don’t think we could do it with Mason playing QB.

So, to wrap this up, hopefully Gray’s meeting with CMR today is to talk about a position swap. Or if it’s not, hopefully CMR will be able to convince Logan to stay with UGA. Bottom line is: We need Logan Gray to wear Red and Black this fall.

I really couldnt care less whether Gray transfers or not. That may sound cruel, but whatever. I think the value that he provides us as a backup vs. Hutson Mason is marginal at best. Sure it will suck if Mason has to play forcan injured Murray, but it would have sucked with Gray as well. Let’s not forget that Texas nearly won the national title game in comeback fashion with a true freshman playing for an injured Colt McCoy. Not saying Masom is on the same level with Garrett Gilbert, but he is as talented or more than Gray, who brings only athleticism to the table. At least Mason seems to have an arm.

So yeah, good luck to Logan elsewhere. Don’t think we’ll miss him.

I don’t blame Logan. With some of these “user” fans blogging, it’s no wonder he can’t stay upbeat about his future with the Dawgs. This is another “Let Richt handle it” issue. I hope Logan stays, but only as a Dawg who loves the team-the team and fans who are turning their backs on him. He has a right for expectations and has shown to put team before self. Not any more with the left-handed scraps some “fans” want to give him and who only have an interest in him as a “just-in-case” Qb that is insulting in it’s contemplation. I would be proud to have him lead our team onto the field whereas some of you want to post the “loyalty in Richt’s conscience” label on him for doing so. None of you chumps had the answers last year and you still don’t. You have no qualms with selling out Coach Richt with him in order to salve your overblown insensitive egos. I suspect that some of you posters are allied with the Bd of Regents and Adams and would undercut Richt and the team at the drop of an ingrown hat.

It’s time to rally round the guy who brings a great deal to the UGA Dawgs team table. He has not been placed in a game in any favorable conditions and has been penalized unmercifully for one bad play on top of being used in a way that hasn’t showcased his talent at QB. Hell, the entire stadium at FSU rose to watch him run the ball on the Jumbotron during the FU game. I think that ESPN must have cut over to watch the play for the reason he was in the game! Any wonder why the opposing team was set for him to run since he was only used that way? Big Secret!! He should be considered our #2 QB in high standing at this moment, but many of you short-sighted jug-effers don’t even follow him in your rush to install Murray. Your high-minded treatment of him is not appreciated by most fans and IS appreciated by our opponents. Many of you are living up to the ESPN-whispered rumor as the worst fans in the SEC. Cut it out, you jerks!!

Good god, chill the F out dude. Saying Logan Gray isn’t good enough to be our QB isn’t an attack on his character, we all know he’s a good kid. Joe T 3 was a great kid who loved the dawns with all his heart. Jt3 didn’t have any business being our QB. Quit trying to make it personal, it’s not

It never ceases to amaze me how naive some people are. At the end of the day, it’s about wins and losses, and all the good intentions in the world won’t change that.

I think Cojones may be Logan Gray in disguise.
