I agree with the other comments out there regarding Kirbygate.
I like Jot ‘Em Down BBQ as much as anyone, but it ain’t no FullMoon or Dreamland. When Kirby and Coach Richt sat down to lunch yesterday and Kirby said “This is good, but man, I miss Jot ‘Em Down. It holds a special place in my heart”, and Full Moon’s manager quickly ran over and threw in an extra Half Moon Cookie on his plate, Coach Richt should have known it was over. BBQ is better in Tuscaloosa. I can respect that. This was doomed from the start.
First let’s look at a few good things to come from this:
1. Kirby gets to continue to eat good BBQ.
2. Perhaps David Pollack will shut up a little bit. Aw, who am I kidding?
3. Damon and Richt has proven that they will spend the big bucks if necessary. First, fans said Richt won’t fire Willie. Then, fans said Damon won’t make the big financial commitment necessary. I wonder what item is next on the list to complain about? Richt and Damon must be responsible somehow for this cold weather.
The way I see it we are 0/1. UGA was interseted in Chavis and Foster, but those were (especially Foster) never realistic choices. We had to make an offer to get Kirby. If we hadn’t gone after him, that move would have been questioned also.
The minute Alabma won the MNC last week, Kirby was no way coming to head up our defense. However, if you didn’t at least show Kirby the respect and offer him something, people (fans and boosters) would wonder how we let Kirby slip away. Coach Richt did what he said he would do; he was going to wait until the games were over and make a competitive offer.
I agreed with Ucheedawg last week that I don’t need a Kirby Smart to make this a good hire. I want someone who was great like Brian Van Gorder was from 2001-2004. I want someone who was at least capable like Willie Martinez was from 2005-2007. Anything will be better than the Willie teams from 2008-2009. There are plenty of fish in the sea.
This could be a blessing; I am sure Alabama is glad Rich Rod spurned them in 2007.
We stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth and swung for the fence. Now, call time, step out of the box, catch our breath and get ready to go at it again.
I also agree with David Hale that the process shouldn’t be reviewed until the end. The end for me is Sunday, November 28, 2010 after the Tech game.

Go Dawgs!
MISTER ARE YOU A CMR FAN! OH WELL EVERY TEAM HAS ONE.
I totally agree. This is pretty much what I said on a comment post at GTP. You have to realize there are those in the sports news media that have to sell time and print. You have to realize there are those fans who can not see past the botton of their brew. Yeah, CMR is a saavy coach. He is looking not only at a DC but at two position coaches. In other words he is looking at 50% of his staff for a team that has some strong potential. I was very critical of the 09 offense thru the first 4 to 5 games. CMR and the current staff have an offense that is going to create a lot of points and pains for some teams on their 2010 schedule. The offense gutted some defenses in their last 5 games. A good defensive staff will serve the team and alumni well, not only in 2010 but afterwards. Yeah CMR will stay the course because he has courage, faith, and confidence in his program and his decision making process. He does not waste time and energy when it is reported some guy maybe said no. Maybe Richt was too strong for these guys about what he wanted. Maybe they were not confident they could put together a new type of D that CMR envisions.
Very good point, Will. Not only are you hiring a DC but you are indirectly hiring 50% of your staff.
People want to make a lot of Richt’s lack of staff turnover; that is partly true. The defensive coaches have, for the most part, not changed until last month. The offensive side has changed coaches every few seasons. Bobo and Tony Ball have been the only current coaches to be on the offense longer than 4 years. Even both of them have worn multiple hats since beginning their coaching careers at UGA.
Hey Fred- Who isn’t a CMR fan?! If you aren’t one, the bulldog nation would probably be better served without you…
