Don’t hate Georgia Southern yet? You will after this

There are two reasons I’m not taking Georgia Southern lightly.

One – they are very capable of rolling up points, as we all remember from their game in Tuscaloosa a year ago. They might be a tougher offensive test than Tech.

Two – Their fan base is almost as much of an annoyance as Tech fans. It’s rather depressing to deal with a group of fans that don’t know their place in the college football food chain. It happens every time they play Georgia in Athens. They come into the Classic City – you know, a REAL ¬†college town, using their little league titles as a reason they’ll leave with a win.

Glory of Georgia, my ass.

Look, I know Georgia Southern has a little-man syndrome.

They operate under the illusion that championships within their little minor leagues somehow equal championships in the nation’s toughest and best football conference.

But here’s the reality. You’re Georgia Southern. And regardless of what your marketing hacks or university presidents say, people DO NOT choose to go to your school of The University of Georgia.

And don’t forget – Georgia Southern’s football program probably never gets going with much success had UGA found a way to convince Erk from leaving Athens.

Go Dawgs!

Lost to The Citadel and App State. Beat Chattanooga in OT and Elon by 3. Yeah, they are going to beat UGA.

No big deal here, they are the pride of Georgia in 1AA football. Always root for them in their league – and they all know that playing UGA in Sanford Stadium at least once is a career highlight for many of thier players. A great way to prep for GT – playing them the week before. Would love to see GA Southern win the 1AA championship again.

Never take any opponent lightly. GA Southern will be fired up for this.

Former GSU player and alumnus. 6 National Championships since the 1980′s isn’t “A few little league titles.” Pardon us for team pride that travels. You do realize that most of us – unlike Tech and Georgia State – in SE Georgia are ALSO lifelong Dawg fans. Oh, and yes, there ARE players from Statesboro/Savannah/etc that never consider another school, no matter their talent level. None of us have delusions of winning in Athens, but it sure doesn’t appear to be us that have the ego issue to begin with.

No worry, glad y’all are coming to Athens. I have lots of friends and family that went to GSU. Plus, can’t ever forget where the Allman Brothers got started.

I’m a lifelong Dawg but have a certain amount of pride in the team that Erk built. Pull for them in their league but fully expect (hope for..) a Dawg victory. Those Georgia boys will play their hearts out against the Dawgs and will give us a game all the way..BUT, GATA Dawgs!!

Graduated from Georgia Southern in 1981. Coach Russell tried to recruit
me when I met him in the weight room that summer. I told him I had to get my sheep skin and join the work force but would always be an Eagle’s fan except when they played the Dawgs. I’ve been a Bulldog since I was old enough to hold a football. I also have one offspring that’s graduated from UGA and another that will finish this spring, so I also send my $$$ to Athens. I’ve said all this to let you know that there are a lot of Eagles fans that are also Dawg fans.

Think much of this was said in jest. I don’t really know any UGA fans who don’t pull for GSU every week. I think we’re all pretty stinking proud of all that GSU has accomplished and hope they can do it again this year. They won’t play with UGA, but they don’t expect to. Good experience for them. Although it does come at a bad time on their schedule, with playoffs right around the corner. Just hope everybody stays safe.

I have to disagree with Uchee and go with Lugnut on this one. It’s not because I dislike GSU, or because I don’t think their program is a success in its respective division. It’s because I have to deal with fans that rival those of the N.A.T.S., such as this:

“Sorry but I was accepted to UGA and decided to go to Georgia Southern. Also why did UGA compete in the SIAA as late as 1920, and they played in the Southern Conference until 13 teams left to form their own Conference in 1932. The Southern Conference is the same conference that Georgia Southern competes in today! So if you compare GSU’s football to Georgia’s at the same time in their history, GSU is way ahead of UGA.”
