As bad as the South Carolina loss was, I remember thinking, at some point in the second half, that as bad as things were, Georgia could still win its way to Atlanta – and not to the Chick-fil-A Bowl.
But here’s the thing – we have to pull for – as disgusting as it sounds – the Gators. Think about it – if Florida beats South Carolina Saturday, all the Dawgs have to do to win the East is win out, though it does include having to beat Florida next week.
As sickening as it is, the Dawg Nation has to cheer for Florida, and apologize to our elders and descendants later.
All this in lies the question – if Georgia wins its way to Atlanta, which would include a win over Florida, how much of the South Carolina loss would be forgotten?
Lugnut Dawg
I don’t think it makes us forget, but it would diminish it somewhat. A win over UF would also prove that we can win a big game because the Florida game is now bigger that the Carolina game was.Regardless of the outcome Saturday in Gainesville, the Dawgs still need to beat the Gators. Period.
Florida is bigger than South Carolina every year regardless of the records. If we beat the Big 3 + UT, it’s hard to say we didn’t have a good year. I’m not pulling for UF on Saturday regardless of its impact on us. I’ll be happy either way because someone has to lose.
I think we really just have to cheer for a giant meteor to hit the swamp, not necessarily cheer for UF.
Even if the stars align, and UGA gets into the SEC title game, we should not forget about what happened at Columbia. It is symptomatic of a larger problem, which is that UGA cannot win the big games with Richt.
I’ve said this elsewhere, but while I expect UF to beat Sakerliny, I’m not convinced it matters that much to UGA one way or the other. Even if the Cocks win, they are fully capable of blowing it against UT or Arky–in fact, them losing to the Vols wouldn’t surprise me a bit. And whether a Gator win means they’ll be up for UGA or due for a fall, we have to win it in any case, then we have our own trap game against Ole Miss and you can never take the AU game for granted. I’m glad LSU beat SC and all, but my upshot for this weekend: I wouldn’t piss down Florida’s throat if its collective heart was on fire, and see no reason to suddenly root for them now. Or the Cocks, either. I wish them both misery and heartbreak, and want my Dawgs to win, period.
If South Carolina are the fortunate ones to play in Atlanta and curb stomped by Alabama, and if we win out and go 11-1 we will play as at large in the Sugar Bowl. Not a bad alternative. Either way gotta beat the Gators.
