Thoughts On Georgia’s Offense

I’m hearing a lot of people making some pretty ridiculous statements when it comes to Georgia’s offense this year and the job Bobo is doing.

Simply put, the Bulldog offense is doing things I’ve never seen before. Some individuals in Bulldog Nation have subscribed to this theory that Georgia scores too quickly and isn’t allowing our defense to rest up. Think about this for a second, then take a step back and admit you’re grasping at straws. Look at the two 70+ yard touchdown runs Marshall had. He simply broke through a hole and outran every defender on the field. Somehow this is Bobo’s fault for not creating long, time consuming drives. These types of thoughts make my head spin. It’s not as if we’re running trick plays; our outstanding running backs are making outstanding plays. Yet this is Bobo’s fault? It’s hard to control the clock when you have a running back find a hole and outrun everybody to the house. What are you supposed to do? Fall down? As for this Dawg, give me the points. I’ll take 40+ every time we play.

Then I hear “Bobo has done a bad job because there were a few times we went 3 and out.” Remember everyone, we play in the SEC. 3 and out is a common occurrence. It’s going to happen. We still scored 51 points versus an SEC team! That’s good people, enjoy it!

There are others still who don’t complain about the points or the fast pace, but say Bobo still isn’t any good, it’s the players that make him look good. It’s true that when players are good, they get the credit, while when players aren’t good, Coach gets the blame. That’s something you understand when you sign up to coach. But come on folks, let’s give Coach Bobo a little credit here. He’s been creative, developed some new wrinkles (when have you ever seen UGA run the pistol?) and he’s utilized his strong talent base very well, mostly without a huge weapon in Malcolm Mitchell.

Forgive me for venting a little, I guess I’m still agitated by the idiot behind me Saturday cussing Bobo every time we didn’t score. But to say that our offense isn’t great because we don’t produce 6 and 7 minute drives doesn’t make sense. Look back at the game, count the yards. Our offense is clicking, and Aaron Murray is in complete control of it. Enjoy the ride folks, it’s gonna be fun. And if we put up 40 on SC this weekend, I’ll bet you a BBQ lunch we win.

My only issue with Bobo this year is this: it seems as if he is ok going 3 and out and kicking the ball back to the opposing offense. There were times in the UT game where UGA could have put it away but just ran the same running play 3 times in a row. It put the defense in a tough spot towards the end of the game. The last five possessions that UGA had they gained a total of 16 yards and only one of them went over 2 minutes. The O really could have helped the defense out by taking time off the clock, luckily the defense finally stepped up and caused 3 turnovers to seal the win.
