The top 5 All-time SEC passing yards leaders* are:
- David Greene, UGA (11,528)
- Chris Leak, Florida (11,213)
- Peyton Manning, Tennessee (11,201)
- Eric Zier, UGA (11,152)
- Danny Wuerffel, Florida (10,875)
One, I find it odd that “Tailback U” and the home of Vince Dooley and Herschel Walker have two of the top 4 passers in SEC history.
Entering the season, Murray had 6,198 yards. Already through 3 games, Murray has 842, which would put him on pace for about 3400 yards this season. That would put him right about 9,500 yards for his career. Entering the season, Murray had 59 passing TDs. At his current rate, Murray is on pace to have about 32 or so TD this season. Assuming he doesn’t bolt for the NFL (which I don’t think he will) or gets a significant injury, Aaron Murray will most certainly hold the UGA and SEC record for most passing yards in a career.
Yeah, Murray makes some bad interceptions. Yeah, he gets a little pumped up and makes some mistakes.
But folks, simply put, we are in the midst of witnessing greatness here. So I suggest you get over your pissy attitudes about the interceptions, footwork, or that Hutson Mason should play more. Enjoy it. Because a special QB like Murray doesn’t come around all that often.
