Catfish and Cornbread: More Than Lewis’ Pets, More Than Food

Yesterday marked our online draft for Fantasy Baseball.  The Grit Tree League had 10/10 members participating at some point in our draft last night, and accordingly, the draft took just under 2 hours to complete.  When we started doing Fantasy Baseball a couple of years ago, it was started to just help pass the time in the dog days of summer.  Now, for me at least, it has turned into one of the most anticipated events of the year.

Instead of the typical Rotisserie style format, we are splitting up into two seperate leagues and playing head to head.  This alters your strategy a little bit.  Our two divisions are “Catfish” and “Cornbread”.  I am in the Cornbread Division with several friends of the blog, while Ucheedawg, Granite and Barndawg are 3/5 in the “Catfish Division.”  Uchee won it all in our first year in 2009, followed by Granite winning it all last year.  I have finished second both years.

Will someone new finish at the top?  Will Corbindawg finally go from 2nd to 1st?  Will Granite and Uchee win it all again?  So many story lines in our league, so little time!

I’ll go out on a limb here and say that somebody new DOES NOT win it all this year! Too much knowledge between team Uchee and team Granite for anyone else to have a fair shot at the championship.

And congrats on back to back 2nd place finishes Corbin. That will get you fired in the SEC.

5th place last year Uchee is enough to get you fired mid season in the SEC.

Um, LSU fans were ready to run Miles out 1 year removed from an MNC and were certainly ready to send him out of town two years removed from a MNC. Rings don’t matter if you finish 5th in the league…

ucheedawg has the best overall team, but how often does the preseason favorite win. Corbin- Juan Piere turns 95 today….sorry always a bridesmaid never a bride

Juan Piere will get 50 SB this season. When I beat your team in SB, talk to me then…

We need to collect a “vision offering” for Corbin. Blind man, just blind. Blind about Willie, blind about UGA, blind about Piere…the list goes on. Check those contacts bubba.

    5th overall left fielder.

I liked it better when you didn’t get on the computer…

I can take you dissing me. I can take you dissing my once flawed opinion that Willie could get it turned around. I can take you dissing my eternal optimisim. But you got another thing coming if you think for one second I am going to sit here and let you get away with dissing Juan Pierre. I will not allow it.

5th overall left fielder = best jv hitter. Left field is like a retirement home, its where players go to play bridge and live out their final years.

I think I am covered with hitting. Tex, Albert and Uggla will take care of that for me.

Yeah, .275-.280 average is terrible. I hope nobody else on my team has that high of a batting average.
