If I were CSS…

…I’d be doing the exact same thing. Going to a better program to get paid way too much money as an assistant coach, and realizing that in all likelihood I will be coaching in the MNC game in the next 5 years. Have fun Coach, you’re making the right personal call.

Now, that’s over with. Hopefully we can use this constructively from a UGA standpoint. I outlined some concerns with the O-line last week (ironic). One point I made was that we supposedly have talent and coaching, but something isn’t clicking. Great opportunity to plug an O-line coach in who can shape this talent that we have into a dominant line.

We’ll be fine with CSS leaving. Some are acting as if it’s the end of the world, but it’s frankly not that big an issue. We have way too much time on our hands if we as Bulldog Nation are fretting over the loss of an assistant coach. Frankly, I wish we were at a point where we are losing multiple assistant coaches a year, like Florida and Bama. That would mean we’re winning, and winning programs lose assistant coaches frequently. Unfortunately, nobody is really coming hard after any of our coaches outside of CSS.

It’s just one coach, happens all over America every year. We’ll be fine. I am sure that CMR will have someone hired within a week, and that will give us one more thing to blog about this offseason.

It is obvious that we are not winning so there is no reason why our coaches will be on demand.

However, it means UGAA does not have to play the higher salary game as Alabama does.

I would argue that Texas is as far away from their next BCS Championship as we are, yet you state they are a ‘better program’ and Searels will be coaching up a National Championship in the next 5 years. Texas is a wealthier program. One of the few that can outbid us for anyone. But no one has done less with more than Texas last season. If we get our shit together on offense, lift some weights, and secure a nose tackle (*cough*Jenkins*cough*) on defense, well be fine. Aaron Murray is a better quarterback than Gilbert. Raiding the SEC for coaches may or may not work for Texas, but I still like our overall talent as much, if not better. UGA is on fire in recruiting right now. This certainly bodes well within the 5-year timeframe.

As bad as our season turned out to be, only the Auburn game got out of hand…and that was late. Texas, on the other hand, got thumped on more than a few occasions (UCLA, Kansas State and Okie State come to mind). Based on that, I’d say we competed better -against better competition- than Texas did.

5 years is an awfully generous time-frame for any traditional power to turn things around and win it all. Just look at the two Alabama schools. Good luck to Searels. Can’t say I’m too upset about his departure.

And if a new Oline coach is not hired within a week the Bulldog blogging nation and AJC will be in a meltdown all over Richt.

UGA & CMR will be better w/ new S&C. CSS to UT and CMB will be good though anc close 2 a BCS MNC w/new TV deal w/ESPN aka WWL.

Sorry my friend but I have yet to hear any concern from bulldawg nation about CSS!! Yes its bad timing, but in my opinion he should have been let go after the last game. There was zero reason to be sad at him leaving!

We need an OLine coach who can evaluate and develop talent. We are not that talented up front. We need to move Bean back to OLine and let a few of this year’s class go elsewhere.

Bean was moved to the other side of the ball because he was unable to grasp the offensive system. The same can be said for a couple of other decorated recruits that haven’t seen any appreciable playing time. The OL is brains and brawn.

It will be interesting to see how quick CMR fills this position. Last year the DC hire was almost a disaster.
But let’s look around the SEC. How long did it take Miles to hire a new OC after his left for Maryland. You have to wonder if he was asked to go if an opportunity came along or if he was that dumb to leave a program like that for Maryland. After all Mettenberg [sp] is coming and LSU was at the bottom in passing.
How long has it taken Ole Miss Coach Nutt to make all those hires? Or UF?
I’d like to know what the talk is between CMR and McGarity.
McGarity will not give CMR forever to doodle along on this.

Show of hands who among us would turn down a 50% pay increase? Yea that’s what I thought. CSS is a good Oline coach or Texas would not have come after him. That he is the only coach on our staff to have gotten a sniff from any other team lo these last 3 years has got to tell you something about us not him.
