The Worst Part of Awwburn Winning

At least for this poor blogger, the worst part of our neighbors to the west winning the BCS National Championship were the two text messages I received immediately after the game from each of my in-laws.

No sooner than the ball split the uprights, my phone went off twice: one a very sarcastic  ”War Eagle” text from the mother-in-law and one a more humble “it was a good game” text from the pa-in-law.

Both of these fine people (and wonderful in-laws, I might add, minus their alma mater) are graduates of Auburn. So I’ve had to hear it all year long. I was due, because I probably wasn’t the best sport these last few years when we had Auburn’s number. But still, it hurts. Especially coming from in-laws.

I strongly dislike Nick Fairley, Gene Chizik, and their stupid receivers coach whose name I won’t even mention. I have a general disdain for the University as a whole. But the real stinger is having to take it from my wife’s parents.

I hope none of you had the same experience. Here’s to hoping we can all repay the favor in the very near future.

I can now put this awful 2010 season behind me. Everyone has their time, and mine is now. I’m glad we’re in 2011.

My in-laws are Bammers. And while, historically, I am okay with the Tide. They have been un”bear”able since the debacle in ’08. My distaste for all things Bama has grown exponentially since that night. I have equated our current demise with their rise. Hating Awbarn is to be expected, but I took extra pleasure in Bama’s 10-3 season.

I feel ya, brother. Both of my wife’s parents are Auburn alumni. My dad-in-law is a pretty good sport who follows the team somewhat and tries to talk like he knows the game, but it’s sad when I can name more Auburn players than he can. And the fact that he defended Fairley just sealed it for me. All in all I can watch a UGA-Auburn game with him in relative peace. However………..

My mother-in-law is an entirely different story. She is loud and obnoxious, esp when AU is having a good season. Cam is probably the only player she could name, but she’d swear to you she’s a HUGE fan. She takes it to another level when we play them, but still won’t watch then entire game. The only game she truly sits down to watch is the Iron Bowl. She sits on the edge of her seat as if her life depended on the outcome. But, I’ve gotta admit, I usually pull for AU in that game. Living in B-ham for the past 10 years I have learned that it is easier to deal with an arrogant AU fan than a Bammer.

    Anyway, I feel your pain……….

I completely feel everyone’s pain as my in-laws are Gators. Not only have I had to deal with them owning us; but football has two titles and basketball has two as well in recent years.
The game in Jacksonville is the most important game of the year. My son and I have a serious discussion about whether we would prefer the Dawgs go 11-1 and lose to UF or go 1-11 with the only win against UF. That is how important the game is to us. So, I feel your pain and then some….

I understand how you feel ucheedawg…my in-laws are Giants fans so they enjoyed the post season very much. They are also Chicago Bears fans as well so I am hoping to have a little revenge if the Falcons get the chance to play the Bears….

My father-in-law went to Tech but doesn’t care about football. I am not sure whether he or I are more fortunate that this is the case.

I have the same problem. My wife, her parents, and siblings are Auburn fans and alumni. They are fairly humble about it though and generally take more digs from me than they dish out. We’ve all seen AU/UGA as being a bigger and better rilvary than all our other competitors like Bama and Florida.

My wife and I had a tough go of it the first few years of our relationship for the week of our big game. I eventually had to come up a “consolation prize” for the game loser. My wife looked forward to getting her gift for AU losing every year and I felt like I could talk smack around the house without hurting her feelings too bad. She didn’t want a consolation prize this year. Go figure.

Listen–am big fan of your blog–it’s awesome. Growing up in the land of NC basketball and battling it out with Dookies over all these years, I think the SEC football nation are all terrific competitors. Georgia has had a spectacular history with FB. I say this year, War Eagle! Thank goodness, NO Dookies involved down here, but am trying to be open.

Auburn better than DOOK as a rival any day of the week.
