He fired Jim Donnan because Jim could not beat GT and the money boys were pissed. The only thing that has saved Mark is the fact that he has had a charmed life (Dooley’s words) when it comes to Tech. If he had gone 6-6 and lost to Tech instead of Arky or MSU or Colorado and followed it with the UCF game, he would have been gone. The AD is not going to fire Mark until Mike Adams issues the order. He has not got the power at UGA.

Public relations doesn’t win games. But is is part of the the job in big time college athletics. It just felt like one more detail we didn’t take as seriously as we should have. Another indicator of lack of focus. I hope I am wrong. I love Mark Richt as both a coach and a man. I want him to succeed. I am not asking for his head, or even Bobo’s. I guess I was just hoping to see some evidence of a little fire in the belly.

The large majority of folks are angry, and with good reason. But if he comes out and says we are going to do this, this and that, and work harder and be better leaders, etc… Folks would have said this is same old same old and we heard all this before (which we have). if he comes out like he did, then its flat and uninspiring. I think that ultimately what is going to make people happy are wins and championships.

For me, at least, he could have said anything and it wouldn’t have made me any less mad. I need to see victories on the field and not victories in the papers.

I think Richt really needed to inspire the fan base this morning and failed to do so. While what you say is undoubtedly true, that it’s not what he says publicly that matters most, it does matter. We need to know that he understands what needs fixing and that he knows how to fix it. We need to know that he has a plan and that his plan has a good chance of success. Saying that what we saw on the field this year is not what we expect is not the same thing as saying that what we saw this year is unacceptable and won’t be tolerated. I was certainly hoping to hear a sharp, focused Coach Richt. Instead, like our Liberty Bowl performance, it sounds like what we got was vague and somewhat flat.
