A Little Focus Goes A Long Way

Saturday was just what the doctor ordered for our Bulldogs. The thing that impressed me the most was that we actually played with focus for a majority of the game, something that we haven’t seen yet this season. That was most evident on the Cuff tip/Rambo pick. That play, in the 4 games prior, results in an incomplete pass. On Saturday, the focus led to the pick. I don’t know if it was generated by Boss’ speech, full pads on Monday, or what; the only thing that really matters is that we saw a team play with focus and heart, and that was good for my soul.

I’ll give folks who still aren’t tickled with where we are this: UT is absolutely terrible. It’s pretty evident that the weekend before, LSU was not enthused at all. But we did beat an SEC foe, and we beat them badly. It doesn’t matter how bad Tennessee may be this year, when you beat the Vols by that margin (and it could have been even wider) that’s a good day. Vegas was spot on with the wide spread, but UGA helped them by actually playing good football on Saturday.

I think we can all agree that there are still several things that need to be ironed out if we want to be competitive against Florida, but the way we played on Saturday is truly a step in the right direction.

If Bobo will continue to just trust Aaron Murray and realize that he’s capable of handling the offense, I think that will go a long way. Having AJ sure helps, but he showed on Saturday that he can distribute the ball to all parts of the field and that others are capable of bringing it in. Again, UT helped our receiving corps look better than they actually are, but you can build drives off of what we saw last weekend, and that’s a big part of what we need.

Going forward, you’d think we have a very good shot at winning these next two and having a 4-4 record when it comes time to head South. I still contend that Florida is going to be tough to beat, if for no other reason than their D. But I’ll take our offense over that of LSU, so you never know…

But that’s getting way ahead of things. If we can have a good week this week and build upon last week’s performance, a 2 game winning streak will be wonderful (who thought we’d be saying that earlier in the year?). A win will probably quiet some of Richt’s critics, at least temporarily. Wins over Vandy and Kentucky will get us back to at least a sense of stability.

It was a great weekend to be a Dawg, no doubt. Georgia won, and Florida lost. Regardless of our record, it’s always “Great To Be A Georgia Bulldog.”

Go Dawgs!
