According to AJC’s Dave O’Brien, Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones is meeting with Atlanta Braves skipper Bobby Cox to discuss his future with the organization.
It is believed that the 38 year old Jones will retire at the end of the 2010 season with a press conference coming as early as today.
If this is indeed the last season for Jones, it would be the perfect season to retire since it will be the last for Braves legendary manager Bobby Cox as well as a season in which the Braves are making a strong postseason run.

Its about DAMN time! Chipper has been a leach on the Braves payroll for the last 5 years.
Move Glaus to 3rd and bring up Freddy Freeman bubba!
That exclamation point in the title was just a little too jubilant. I know it seems he’s given it all and he’s got nothing left, but let’s not dance in the streets when the greatest Atlanta brave of all time hangs them up.
Agreed will edit.
I’m going to miss wondering when he’s getting off the disabled list…
Calling Chipper “the greatest Atlanta brave of all time” seems a bit of a stretch, doesn’t it? He’s a hell of a player, but what about Arron, Smoltz, and Glavine? I’m not sure I put him above any of those 3.
I would. Hank Aaron did most of his damage in Milwaukee, so he’s not included.
Glavine left the Braves for the Mets. That discounts him.
Smoltz left the Braves for the Red Sox because he didn’t think he was getting paid enough.
Chipper is the only Brave that spent his entire career in Atlanta, and he is a 1st ballot HOF’er. We’ve had him for so long we take him for granted, but he was one of the greatest players in baseball over the course of the last two decades.
Erghh… that was me, good ol’ Reptillicide. Again, no personality disorder… just comment section shenanigans
Chipper greatest all time Brave my ass! I love the Braves as much as the next guy. I love Chipper- he’s a good Ol’ Boy. But damn if he ait been a joke!
Name a better one.
Bub, you weren’t a glimmer in your daddy’s eye, but Dale Murphy is the best all time Brave! When the Braves were terrible, I mean TERRIBLE, Dale was the only thing that kept the Braves going!
Kept them going? The Braves SUCKED during those years. Get out of town. Chipper Jones is the smartest hitter arguably in the history of the game. He’s a career Brave and will go down as arguably the best Atlanta Brave to ever put on spikes– next to Hank.
I agree with Albany Dawg. I’m a Murph man myself! I don’t think Chipper endeared himself to the fan base like Murphy did.
