5 Questions with 960 The Ref’s Chris Brame

Grit Tree: At the Macon Bulldog Club meeting last week, Coach Richt was talking about the coolness that made David Greene so  great.  He called P44 Haynes an “unspectacular” play.    Chris, what do you think has been the most spectacular or greatest play in the Richt era?

Chris Brame:  Well, I guess if you use the actual definition of the word “spectacular”, then coach Richt is right.  “P44 Haynes” was, at its base, a simple play.  But, that was the first great, hair raising moment of his era.  For me, I’ll take David Pollack extracting the ball from Corey Jenkins in the endzone during the 2002 South Carolina game.  How many times have you ever seen the line:  1 INT, 0 YDS, TD?

I think this was the most spectacular play, also…

TGT: A lot of eyes are going to be on the men from Tallahassee this season. Florida State has a cupcake against Samford to start the season, but then has to go to Norman to face the Sooners in a rematch of the 2001 BCS National Championship game and then host high flying BYU the next week.   I still have Florida State with 5 losses next season (Oklahoma and Florida and 3 Conference: UNC, Clemson and Miami).  How do you think the Seminoles are going to do in Jimbo Fisher’s inaugural season?

CB:  Florida State finally took the first step to a rebirth with the long overdue removal of Bobby Bowden.  Did they wait too long?  For several seasons, talent was the least of the Seminoles troubles.  They recruited elite classes and sent a bunch of guys to the NFL.  But as they’ve continued to max out at 7 or 8 wins, the sun has started setting on Tallahassee and that pipeline of talent has dried up.  Right now, I can name two of their players.  Greg Reid and Christian Ponder.  Jimbo Fisher has some work to do, and I don’t think one offseason is enough to turn it around.  They do avoid both Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech in conference play, so a run at the ACC Championship game isn’t off the table.  I see 8-4 as their ceiling.

TGT: Chris, onto Braves talk.  What has surprised you the most in the month of May so far:  Troy Glaus has been so good, or that Chipper has continued to struggle?

CB:   Sadly, I have to say Glaus.  Chipper looks finished and he looked well done at the end of last season.  He hit .202 and slugged .315 last September.  That’s carried over.  He does still walk a bunch, but the power is completely lost.

TGT: On Thursdays, we try to review a BBQ joint here on The Grit Tree.  Chris, what’s your favorite BBQ place?

CB:  Sonny’s……kidding.  This isn’t a straight BBQ place, but I have to give a plug to the Carolina BBQ sandwich at 5 Star Day Cafe.  It’s as big as the plate.  Eating it with your hands is hopeless.  Delicious.

TGT: Chris, give us your top 5 best villains on TV or in movies.

CB:   After watching Lost last Tuesday I have to put at number 5…..Benjamin Linus
4.  Glenn Beck
3.  Ric Flair

2.  Darth Vader
1.  Heath Ledger’s interpretation of The Joker

Ask him if he ever made it to Ty Cobb’s tomb.

As an Athens resident, Brame should know that Charter Cable is hands down the No. 1 villain associated with TV or movies.

Brame has Glen Beck as a villain? If you read Lewis Grizzard at all you know Lewis would be standing and applauding Beck. You may not like Beck’s style or delivery, I often don’t, but as an American you have to hope more citizens get exposed to the facts in his rants. I know Dims are more about emotions and feelings than facts because they cannot be debated/interpreted/twisted but we are at a crisis point in this country. We either reverse the current direction and slide or we will collapse as a country. It is that serious, and many naive people don’t see the train wreck headed their way. At least Beck is shining a light on many of these issues, if you wish to put your head in the sand no one can stop you.

I don’t really know who Brame is but I hope he is more competent in other areas he speaks on. Sometimes you have to evaluate yourself by the people who are standing with you and cheering. Those who oppose our country, and what it has stood for over the past 250+ years, are the one’s concerned about Glen Beck. The messenger shouldn’t be blamed, the news is just ugly these days.
